Is the music not stopping?
I know it's on loop, but it seems each time it loops, the music continues, and starts a new track at the same time, leading to mutiple tracks of the same song overlapping and making a mess. Otherwise, drawing's pretty good, too bad there's nothing there.
Checked the song you used, and it sounds nothing like what happened here.
Best Games Factory game I've seen so far
Seeing how it was Games Factory, I wasn't expecting much since they're usually crappy quality, but this was pretty good!
Only comments, work on jumping. The double jumping area is impossible to do. You can't double jump over it. I've been at it for a long time and still haven't gotten past. It pretty much makes the game unplayable
I would also suggest you add more sounds to it.
After fixing the jump issue, I would like to see the rest of the game since it's impossible to get past that part.
THANKS for the feedback, this game did have more sounds but most of them were copyrighted so i had to take them off to put the game online. The jumping is tricky, but I assure you it is masterable! None the less I will try to fix this!
Could be better
Not sure if you used the game factory widget to make this since it looks amazing like something made from it.
Things to improve on
Just shooting isn't aligned with your hands when you move.
Movement is blocky when you change directions.
Also, give instructions more clearly in the front. Make sure to state that in the menu you need to use arrow keys.
Make your font look more professional. Using the standard font like that doesn't help your image much.
Menu Background would look nicer.
In-game Stats text- this just looks terrible. Maybe make a sort of HUD for it. I'd advise you to look at other games for an idea on how to show these stats.
Also, perhaps little tool tips when you get new weapons so you know their effects better.
Things that were good:
Two players :) great idea!
Weapon progression is good, as well as tossing grenades different distances.
Custom controls is a great thing, could lead to the possibility of more than 2 players perhaps.
There's definitely potential here. Reminds me of Boxhead 2 play, and I would definitely play this w/ my bro once it's more streamlined.
Hey thanks for the feedback:
I'll definitely change the font (Maybe Calibri) and see what I can do to improve the U.I.
I've been told that the instructions are more of an unnescessary long manual, listing each object and tips for interacting with it. I'll try and make the gameplay more intuitive. I could probably cut it down to:
-What the controls are
-How to Strafe/use special abilities
-What turret ports and forcefield bridges are
-That the objective is to kill as many enemies as you can before you die.
I agree that graphics definitely need to be improved, and they will be once, all the gameplay features are polished and added in.
I've never heard of the game factory widget, 95 % of this had to be programmed from scratch in AS3 (which, you'll know is damn tedious work).
As for local co-op and controls:
I've been told by some people that they wanted mouse controls, which provide far easier handling, at the cost of local co-op (and vice versa).
I may end up keeping both, but give the player the option of mouse controls in a 1 player game.
To all the other players out there, tell me which you prefer...
great! but needs a few tweaks
Great game, fun gameplay except for some issues I've been having.
On the later levels, doug moves so fast that just getting your mouse to him is too slow and he disappears sometimes. Also, the area you need to click on him is too small. I end up having to click multiple times to get him.
Doug appears too much in the later stages. I could only fill like 2 or 3 cups with ale, and then doug appears, and eats up more than half my time. All in all, I served only like 6 cups each round due to doug.
Also, your character moves too slow. Sometimes I click doug, but by the time he jumps there Doug is gone, making it pointless in clicking him since he jumps too slow.
Fun game, but the difficulty curve is too steep towards the end. Tiny things like your speed play against you too much towards the end.
I can totally imagine this being used in a game. Reminds me of Legend of Zelda, when the fairies appear. I love the harp usage! :)
Thanks for the review man. I'm lovin the harp too :D
Isn't this basically "Requiem for a Dream"?
Just with different instruments?
The quality of your instruments aren't that great. If you want to do a cover on it, you should probably say it's a cover since it does sound like a exact copy. Also, I would suggest you actually make it different than the original since currently this is remarkably similar to the original.
Yes the beginning I tried to cover it but the notes and instruments were done by ear and so it was hard to produce similar instrument sounds. Thanks for your comments though on making it different. I'll take into consideration.
Love songs like this :).
I'd love to see the lyrics though :).
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
As an expression of my gratitude, I'll even go so far as including the lyrics.
As like all your other sprites, they're amazing quality! Perhaps you should advertise and see if an animator wants to use them! Haven't seen a pikimin game or movie yet :)
